Madrid High School's junior students in Mr. Mertz's American History classes visited the Madrid Home & Cedars to learn about the past from our community's residents who lived it first-hand. Groups of students were paired with Madrid Home & Cedars residents who experienced the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, and other events they have learned about in class this year.
Students had plenty of questions and received thorough answers, along with an in-depth look at what life was like in past generations for teenagers. Many of the residents have deep roots in Madrid and were able to tell the students about days in one-room "country schools." Students also enjoyed seeing pictures and uniforms and hearing about one resident's service in World War II.
